Nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s scenic West Portal neighborhood, Goat Hill Pizza is a standout destination for pizza aficionados who crave a delicious twist on a classic favorite. Specializing in mouthwatering sourdough crust pizzas, this local gem offers an array of carefully crafted combinations that bring together fresh, vibrant ingredients with that unmistakable tangy crust you won’t find just anywhere.
Whether you’re ordering in for a cozy night at home or picking up a takeaway feast, Goat Hill Pizza’s menu is a celebration of variety and bold flavors. Popular favorites include the XL Special Combo, brimming with savory toppings, and the Mediterranean Hawaiian Split Pizza, which brings an unexpected yet harmonious blend of sweet pineapple, salty ham, and Mediterranean spices. For those who appreciate a smoky, spiced bite, the Large Porky Pie dazzles with bacon, roasted garlic, and red onion over a luscious garlic cream sauce. Meanwhile, the June Pizza of the Month, crowned by housemade pesto, spring potatoes, and a kiss of parmesan on their iconic sourdough base, offers a seasonal treat that perfectly balances creaminess and earthiness.
Beyond pizza, the selection of side dishes and salads means there’s truly something for every palate. The Garlic Bread with Cheese is a gooey, aromatic appetizer that pairs wonderfully with the fresh, herbaceous Greek Salad, featuring crisp cucumbers, kalamata olives, and artichokes in vibrant harmony. Pasta lovers will find delight in the Spaghetti Meatballs, though a subtle note from a reviewer suggested it could use a touch more flavor punch—a small quibble amidst generally rave reviews.
The dining atmosphere at Goat Hill Pizza radiates casual warmth, inviting families, friends, and solo diners alike to savor their meal in a relaxed setting. Staff are known for friendly, attentive service that makes each visit feel personal and welcoming.
True to San Francisco’s foodie spirit, the pricing reflects quality ingredients and the unique sourdough craft — some regulars mention that pies can edge toward the pricier side, especially the individual large pies that hover around $20. However, the passionate fans of Goat Hill Pizza unanimously agree that the quality and flavor justify the occasional splurge. One delighted local, Ken Wong, raved about the “delicious slices” and “perfectly cooked sourdough crust,” while Marianna Fila confessed the medium pizza’s flavor was so irresistible she didn’t even want to share.
In essence, Goat Hill Pizza offers more than just a meal; it’s a culinary experience that redefines what pizza can be. Whether indulging in their unique combination pizzas, savoring the fresh salads, or wrapping up with a decadent slice of tiramisu, guests walk away with a genuine connection to that delightful San Francisco sourdough tradition. For anyone craving pizza that balances bold flavors with artisan craftsmanship, Goat Hill Pizza is a must-visit — a place where every bite tells a savory, satisfying story.
Delicious slices. Loved the sourdough crust! Would come back again.
Favorite pizza of all time. Didn’t think sourdough would enhance the pizza experience
Nice service. Good pizza. Kind of expensive. Since when did individual pies cost $20? Only in San Francisco?
Yummy Pizza that’s relatively affordable. Bruschetta was super yummy, I loved the Pesto addition! The pesto pasta was yummy, lacking a bit of flavor though, and a little oily. That’s my only complaint!
The best pizza in San Francisco. Sourdough crust is perfectly cooked. Although Medium size pizza easily can feed 3 people, it’s so tasty I don’t want to share at all.
Excellent sourdough pizza; Goat Hill is a longtime neighborhood staple. Crust is tangy, rich with flavor and just crispy enough. Sauce is also very good; best to order light but that depends on preference. Plain cheese & mushroom pie was delicious as are all their meat toppings. A regular hangout for almost 20 yrs now; excellent service too; love this place!
